I LIKE STUFF

DAY 01 Favorite Mugiwara Pirate

This was incredibly hard for me. I happen to love all the Straw Hats for different reasons, so I’ve never had a “favorite.” Eventually I narrowed it down to Zoro and Luffy, which was even harder for me. 

My choice was Luffy, clearly. Here’s why:

At first when I began the series, Luffy was my least favorite. I found him to be a little too dull for my tastes. Yeah, it was nice to have comic relief, but he was the relief non stop. Everything he said and did was just…idiotic. But eventually he grew on me because of several reasons.

1. His conviction. No matter what obstacle lies in his way, he’ll do anything and everything to achieve what he has his heart set on, whether it be something as small as convincing someone to join his crew to something as large as becoming the Pirate King. And while this head strong mindset gets him and his companions into loads of trouble, it also ends up being the very thing that saves their lives. 

2. His devotion to his crew. It truly touches my heart when I see Luffy become so concerned and caring over his friends. During the Water 7 arc, when Robin leaves, the way he refuses to let her go is truly astounding. And I like the fact he isn’t so selfish about it, either. He generally wanted Robin to be apart of his crew because she was his friend, not because she was talented or strong. I just love the way he runs his crew, or rather how he is towards them. Instead of being like most captains, Luffy cares for each crew member on an emotional level and doesn’t see them as just pawns to get what he wants. The relationships between him and his crew are beautiful.

3. His personality. He is, to me, the center of all the Straw Hats, personality wise. While he has his own dynamic personality, a part of every Straw Hat lives inside of Luffy, which is why he draws me in. It’s funny how Luffy sees serious situations, and comments dumbly on them, but ends up making a very valid and terrific point in his own air headed way. I could give a million and ten examples on that, but I’m sure I don’t need to. Anyway, I just like the fact that he can be so…out of whack. He can be happy and goofy one minute, then be the most serious, ruthless person you’d ever encounter the next. I think these quick mood swings are what keep me on my toes, because you never know how he will react. 

Plus…he’s adorable! Look at him!

Okay, I could go on forever about Luffy, but I’m going to stop here because typing all that out would be a hell of a long time. Plus no one’s really going to read this anyways. xD
